Ambian is a fairly new prescription sleep aid. In fact, it may even be the most prescribed sleep aid now. Like other sleep aids, though, it's possible to form a dependence on it. So it's really only meant to be taken for short periods of time, probably less than two weeks at a time. If you're sleep problem recurs when you stop taking the pills, then you may need to take it periodically to get good sleep, but you would need to discuss that with a doctor.
