Valcyclovir is the chemical name for Valtex, the most common drug that's prescribed for herpies. It's related to acyclovir, the drug that used to be more common to relieve herpes sores. Valcyclovir can be taken in large doses to overcome an outbreak, or it can be taken in milder doses to prevent outbreaks.
