Mevicor

Mevicor, a drug to lower cholesterol, may sometimes be prescribed in combination with niacin, a vitamin. Niacin helps to lower blood cholesterol, and Mevicor prevents cholesterol from being created (not 100%), so the two work to lower cholesterol from both angles.

Your doctor should also discuss changes in your diet. You should follow all dietary restrictions while taking the medication in order to ensure that it will work (and there won't be any nasty interactions with something you shouldn't be eating).
